Avianor Centre d’excellence A220

Experiencing strong growth in its operations, Avianor – a company specialized in MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) and aircraft cabin integration – needed to expand its headquarters to include a new hangar capable of accommodating four additional maintenance lines dedicated to A220 aircraft as well as other single-aisle aircraft.

In 2024, the company entrusted Syscomax with the construction of its new A220 Center of Excellence, annexed to the existing facility located at the Mirabel airport site. This large-scale expansion involved several technical challenges, including the procurement and installation of specialized equipment, as well as the construction of an apron connecting the new building to the airport taxiways. To meet these requirements, Syscomax worked in close collaboration with Avianor – a company owned by DRAKKAR Aerospace & Ground Transportation – as well as Groupe Mach and Aéroports de Montréal (ADM). The architectural design, meanwhile, was entrusted to the firm NEUF Architect(e)s.

The construction of this expansion, with an area of 101,300 sq. ft. (9,411 m²) and a clear height of 45 feet, was completed over twelve months and required rigorous planning to meet the strict standards of the aerospace sector. Syscomax was notably responsible for integrating and installing Megadoor hangar doors (oversized opening doors), as well as implementing a Safespill ignitable liquid drainage floor system. As the first general contractor in Canada to incorporate this technology, Syscomax introduced a system that eliminates the use of foam and chemical agents, avoids PFAS residues, and ensures the safe evacuation of ignitable liquids through simple rinsing—all while meeting the highest technical and environmental standards of the aerospace industry.
